McDonald’s To Hire 375,000 Workers This Summer
Quick service restaurant chain McDonald’s (MCD) has announced plans to hire up to 375,000 workers across the U.S. this summer. Chicago-based McDonald’s announced the hiring blitz at a news conference attended by U.S. Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer.McDonald’s is one of President Donald Trump’s favorite restaurants, and the company has been capitalizing on that fact during his second term in the White House. The company previously donated $1 million U.S. to Trump’s second presidential inauguration, its first contribution to an inaugural fund in more than a decade.Analysts say McDonald’s is likely trying to appease President Trump as Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s “Make America Healthy Again” agenda targets fast food companies.McDonald’s typically hires more employees during the busy summer months. However, this year’s hiring is the biggest since the restaurant chain fully reopened after the Covid-19 pandemic, when it hired 260,000 employees across the U.S.Though it typically pays minimum wage, McDonald’s is one of America’s largest private employers. McDonald’s claims that one in eight Americans has worked at its restaurants. The big hiring push this summer also comes as McDonald’s opens more U.S. restaurants. The company is aiming to add 900 new locations in America by 2027.The stock of McDonald’s is up 7% this year and trading at $311.92 U.S. per share.
