Tuesday, January 21, 2025 Consumer Price Index: 8:30am Dec CPI rose 1.8% on a year-over-year basis in December, down from a 1.9% increase in November. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, the CPI rose 0.2% in December. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 1.9% on a year-over-year basis in November, down from a 2.0% increase in October. Friday, January 17, 2025 Canada's International Transactions in Securities: 8:30am Nov Canadian investors increased their exposure to foreign securities by $17.8 billion in November, the highest investment since March 2024. Meanwhile, foreign investors acquired $16.4 billion of Canadian securities, led by an unprecedented investment in money market instruments. Foreign investors increased their exposure to Canadian securities by $21.5 billion in October, a second consecutive month marked by significant investment activity. Meanwhile, Canadian investors reduced their holdings of foreign securities by $2.6 billion, the first divestment since January. Thursday, January 16, 2025 Housing Starts: 8:15am Dec Housing starts in Canada plunged by 13.35% month-over-month to 231,500 units in December 2024, the lowest level in three months and below market expectations of 245,000 units, according to the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation reported home sales totaling 252,400 in November, compared to 242,200 in the same month last year. The seasonally adjusted S&P Global Canada Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index™ (PMI®) remained above the crucial 50.0 no-change mark for a third successive month in November, improving to 52.0, from 51.1 in October, the rate of growth also improved to its highest since February 2023.
